Map of the Tokyo History Trail: Asakusa and Ryogoku published, Yanaka and the Imperial Palace coming soon

Published stops

  • Asakusa — Senso-ji and the Kaminarimon gate. What’s genuinely Edo-period, and what is a 1960 concrete rebuild.
  • Ryogoku — the Edo-Tokyo Museum, reopened March 2026 after a four-year renovation.

Coming next

  • Yanaka & Nezu — one of the few districts to survive both the 1923 earthquake and the 1945 firebombing largely intact.
  • Imperial Palace East Gardens — the surviving stonework of Edo Castle, seat of the Tokugawa shoguns.
